author's note

From Vishnu Singh

As a kid growing up during apartheid South Africa in a boarding school, there wasn’t much in the form of entertainment. Our routines started at 04h30 in the morning and ended at 20h00 in the evening. The school library was a welcome respite from the tedium of academic life and the cruelty of entitled kids. It allowed me to live through other worlds and experience environments that were otherwise unobtainable.

Hailing from a privileged background was both a blessing and a curse. It allowed me access to complete education but also made me a stranger in my own neighbourhood. All praise to the group areas act. I had always wanted to write, but after returning from conflict, I did not possess the skills or the comprehension of literature.

The years progressed and by chance motoring journalism became part of my adventures. Being a petrol head, it was not a difficult transition and after some nominations for my work, I decided to pursue active writing again. That was eight years ago.

The works you see before you are a culmination of spiritual enquiry, latent aggressive instances of violence, self-enquiry, the desperate state of the planet and a belief that with the existence of a rightful deity there should be justice. In this life or the next, you will be held accountable.

This is book one in a series of six books, of which the last two are still in progress.

The series has thirteen main characters, and the story weaves a complex tale of many of the challenges I faced in decades of living on Earth and all the complexities of growing up with stories like Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons and the Marvel / DC universes.

There have been some incredible heroes, villains and plot lines through the decades, so when designing my characters and species, I tried to be as diverse and imaginative as possible.

I also attempted to base the system of magic on a scientific approach.

Due to the intricacy of the story and the diverse nature of the characters, I have attempted to create a visual character guide for some of the people, places and things in this universe.

As the author, I welcome thoughts and comments of characters, situations and the interaction between the cast of the series. The production team thinks that this sort of communication will allow a very different type of development as and when the other books and notes are published.

Thank you for taking the time to engage.
